9:11 am - music
firstly, you can stream both Regina Spektor's Far and Bjork's Voltaic on En Pee Arrr right now, because they are cool like that(or because I am turning into my mother and what I think is COOL NEW AMAZING music is in fact quite dated! AGH! fuggit i don't care, I mean if polka was suddenly all the rage I wouldn't get on the bandwagon and go all nuts... no wait.. it IS, and I DID...)

secondly, exclusive question for Bostonites - what are you doing tonite? So far I got Xmortis and The Pill on my radar... assuming I make it into the city in time!
and for tomorrow, of course, HUMANWINE at the 'dize. it promises to be amazing! :)

1:40 pm - i kinda wish i twittered, just so i could do this!
copied from fb wall of a friend:

"from another fb friend: "Do you twitter? Change your twitter setting to GMT +3:30 (Tehran time) and your location to any city in Iran. If all of us are Iranians then it is a little harder for government censors to track down Iranian tweeters. (See list of Iranian cities at http://is.gd/13UCt.)""

2:41 pm - o hlo lj
i have been terribly neglectful. i'm sorry. it's just that... facebook is so much more fun than you! it's bubbly and fresh and new and shiny and quirky and quick, and we have so much fun together! erm... but you're still great and everything... 10 years old, huh? and we've been together for what, like, 7 of them? oooh sheeet looks like our anniversary is coming up. well, that's... swell.

soooo... what's everybody doing?

really, i am here to pimp a cool show. typical. use you and abuse you, not even a thank-you-ma'am. These guys are pretty fun tho, and pretty intense. it's like a classy artsy version of industrial glitchy noise with visuals. proto laptop something or other. Just saw them perform last night here in Syracuse, and they are now on their way to your neck of the woods, if you live in Boston or NYC that is. Tonight @ middlesex lounge, tomorrow night at Bunker [link, go to "events"]. it's really a great and fun show, i am not doing it proper props as my head is filled with snotty fluids and epic fail of thought. although i hear at least in boston it's a small venue so might be a challenge to get in unless you come early.
They are members of Raster Noton, first up was Carston Nikolai, followed by Olaf Bender, and then they rocked out together. Plus, they are really sweet and down to earth guys, despite their age you can see the kid in them...

(oh, and while lj is not looking - if you are on fb and aren't my friend, look me up! mashuta at alum dot bu dot edu)

12:28 am - w.t.f. mate
i just stumbled upon this "РЕПЕР СЯВА" phenomenon and my brain hurts. but part of me is kinda sorta enjoying it (possibly because i can't understand half the swear words in his incredibly rich lexicon, and feel like a kid in a forbidden candy store). this, for example, seems a fitting russian reply to Gogol Bordello. And this, to a rave... not that i would know or anything, of course.
oh me oh my. mom better not find out i've been listening to such perversities.

current mood: wtf

12:19 pm - suffering from temporal dissosication
was just putting a date on some document, and 3/3/02 came out. it seemed a perfectly good date. had to really slosh around some neurons to arrive at the conclusion that this might not be right, despite feeling so. trying to figure out what year it really was mostly centered around trying to remember what movement the pen made when i've been writing it out lately. 09 does not at all make sense. neither does 08. i think i am losing my already-loose grip on temporal co-existence with y'all. or maybe i'm DEAD. whoa. maybe i died in 02? this would explain why most of the 00s have been feeling so surreal... *floats away in a haze*

10:50 am - belated overheard in nyc
Teenager: I don't know if I would wear a fur coat, ever.
Friend: I know I would, just as long as it wasn't raccoon...raccoons are just gross.
Hobo with heavy Russian accent: In mother Russia raccoon wear you!

10:04 am - dear lj genie
since you were so helpful last time.. kkhm.... so flickr is driving me nuts. i uploaded a few photos and made them into a set. i haven't done sets, or much else on flickr in ages (i have a free one, of course). so my set is spiffy and new, i send the link to my friend, and he writes back that he forgot his flickr login info. and i'm like - does not compute. why can't he just go look at it? i try my link, it works. then i remember to log out of flickr. now the link doesn't work. when i look at my photostream, old stuff shows up, but not the new photos i've made part of the set. when i log in, they do show up in my photostream. i've checked permission settings on these photos, they're set to "anyone can see them", not just flickr people. commence banging head against screen.

also, how many of y'alls bostonites are gona be at ceremony on the 29th? the snow ball in hell thing? i must map out my trajectory through your snowy hell-lands.

11:20 am - your depressing nugget for the day
The United States, home to five percent of the worlds’ population, now houses
twenty-five percent of the world’s prison inmates. Our incarceration rate — at
714 per 100,000 residents and rising — is almost forty percent greater than our
nearest competitors (the Bahamas, Belarus, and Russia). More pointedly, it is
6.2 times the Canadian rate and 12.3 times the rate in Japan.
